\nAs real estate professionals, we love to take stock of all the current design trends and styles\u2014especially the ones that are taking over our Pinterest and Instagram feeds.\u00a0Over the past few years, we’ve seen an uptick in minimalist-driven\u00a0trends\u00a0like hygge, eco-chic and other tiny homes\u2014all boasting clean lines and decluttered rooms. The big overarching theme will all these trends is a distancing from technology, with some even encouraging banning\u00a0TVs and smartphones from the home entirely.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nThat\u00a0idea\u00a0continued into early 2020 when a new trend emerged:\u00a0cottagecore, something the subreddit, r\/cottagecore, explains as “your grandma, but like, hip.” But what is “cottagecore” and why is it\u00a0everywhere right now?<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

What is cottagecore?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nCottagecore, also dubbed “farmcore” or “countrycore,” offers a natural\u00a0aesthetic\u00a0reminiscent of what you could find in a cottage in the English countryside. We’re talking greenery, vintage furniture, farmhouse tables, floral dresses and more. In a few words:\u00a0cottagecore\u00a0is a whimsical\u00a0aesthetic\u00a0all about living natural and appreciating the world around us.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nWe first saw\u00a0cottagecore\u00a0popping up in the news in early 2020, when\u00a0<\/span>the New York Times published\u00a0an article on the new trend<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0But it wasn’t until COVID-19 hit the United States in March that it really started to take shape. With ample time on our hands, many turned to finding fulfillment and purpose outside careers and the usual outdoor entertainment.\u00a0Suddenly, with so much time at home, it seemed like everyone was baking sourdough, planning summer gardens,\u00a0and engaging in grandma-inspired craft projects like knitting and embroidery.\u00a0We even saw department stores like Target jump on the\u00a0cottagecore\u00a0trend\u00a0as\u00a0they started\u00a0selling\u00a0floral nightgowns\u00a0and peasant dresses.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nBut, at the end of the day,\u00a0cottagecore\u00a0is more than just a design or style of dress, it’s a mindset all about\u00a0reflecting back\u00a0to a simpler time and escaping from the stresses of the modern world.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
